The Fraunhofer will evaluate drones in warehouses

IML_flying-inventory-assistantInventAIRy is one of the research projects of the program «Autonòmics for Industry 4.0 of the German Ministry of economy and energy. ” Led by the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML in Dortmund, it aims to use drones in warehouses to automatically perform an inventory of stocks. The drone must follow a predetermined route, locate warehouses via 3D cameras, ultrasound and lasers. They may be counting items via an RFID reader or by reading bar codes. A project probably less ambitious than deliveries by drones of Amazon or Google, but will probably materialize well before them. The first flights must be carried out in 2015.
